I have been scooting around the city for eight weeks now and have finally put it away, hoping to never need it again. I am still not as mobile as I would like to be, I am in my boot for almost four more weeks and am hobbling around as best I can. Which is a workout and gets me extra uncomfortable in this sudden humidity that continues to show up. It is so humid my door is sticking! Try yanking on a stuck door in crutches while balancing a backpack full of groceries. Not fun.

Still, there is a light at the end of this tunnel, and I will get there slowly. I am just thankful that my friends have continued to put up with me, they have been my own group of cheerleaders whenever they see me or when I tell them I conquered my first set of stairs since August 13th!

We are moving into fall and leaving the warm days of summer behind. Putting up the swimsuits and taking out the coats. If you live in a city like Chicago where you can never count on the weather you may be getting whiplash with the temperature change. Up again, down again. One day my leg is sweating in my cast/boot and the next I wish I wore a wool sock, or at least covered my toes.

This week I wanted to satisfy both my cravings, the side of me eager for fall and the side not wanting to let go of summer. A nice warm chicken pot pie to make the mouth water and a sparkling strawberry and thyme cocktail to keep off the remaining heat. Swoon.
